Moriah Melin W. RM, CPM, NMBI
Every day Moriah is humbled by parenthood, partnership, physical health, and the ways she witnesses those around her rise to their challenges. She’s been supporting families in childbirth since 1996, and is currently registered as a midwife in Colorado and with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
Moriah is also a death doula and educator passionate about end-of-life transitions. Her forthcoming book “How To Show Up for the Dying and Their Loved Ones: What to Do, What to Say” is written for folks who want to help but don’t know how when a loved one is diagnosed with a potentially terminal illness. Moriah has a wealth of wisdom in the field of pre- and perinatal somatic psychology and has been weaving this work into her homebirth practice since 2012.
She currently travels and teaches this work to other midwives and birth professionals. She loves raising her children in the North Fork Valley and is grateful to offer her gifts in support of the Healthy Human Ecosystem this community nurtures. She’s the founder of Standing at the Veil, an online support and education platform which over time has the potential to transform our current death and dying landscape.

Rachel Snow RM, CPM
My path towards midwifery began as a teenager when I was blessed to support a friend giving birth in the tidal pools of Hawaii, dolphins including! I knew then it was my soul’s calling to become a midwife. I later began attending births regularly in 2013 and finally became a licensed midwife in 2020. I have had the privilege of working as a homebirth midwife, as well as a staff midwife at a freestanding birth center in Boulder, prior to moving to the Western Slope.
With over a decade of experience attending many births in various settings, I have cultivated a deep trust and confidence in out-of-hospital birth. I believe every woman deserves a safe and nurturing environment to welcome her baby, and to be entrusted with that responsibility is my honor. While I have always held immense respect for Motherhood, giving birth to my own two children significantly strengthened my love for birth and midwifery. Having firsthand experienced being held by the tender hands of midwives during my own pregnancies, midwifery care was truly life-changing for me. I feel incredibly blessed to continue the legacy of care, I too, received.
I strive to provide care for my families rooted in the energies of autonomy, sovereignty, respect for your individuality, and emotional connection.
In addition to my midwifery practice, I am a certified clinical herbalist and nutritionist. I have a profound passion for holistic health, and my offerings include traditional healing techniques such as Mayan Abdominal Massage Therapy and Ayurvedic postpartum treatments.
When I’m not supporting families in their birthing journeys, you can find me enjoying time in nature with my children, tending to my garden, or experimenting with fiber arts and natural dyes. I am here to walk alongside you, providing compassionate care and support as we embark on this beautiful journey together.
Rachel’s certifications include Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), Colorado Registered Midwife (RM), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Certified Clinical Herbalist and Nutritionist (CCH) (CCN), Abdominal Therapy Practitioner (Through Abdominal Therapy Collective). Her CPR and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications are current at all times. Her suturing and IV authority are up to date with the Sate of Colorado.
Samuela Akert, student midwife
Motherhood had always been a deep desire for me and it became a transformative journey when I was pregnant with my first child 18 years ago. Since then I have felt a calling to be more connected to the cycles of women and the sacred transition into motherhood.
10 years ago my family and I moved to the North Fork Valley from Alaska. It has been such a blessing to live in this beautiful place and find such a vibrant community of families and like minded people. I feel lucky to call this place my home.
Music has been a big part of my life since I was a child and I enjoy playing in my band Mama Lingua. I have been the orchestra teacher at North Fork School of Integrated Studies and the past two years I have also worked as a Special Education Aide; this has enriched my life immensely. Working with children has helped me cultivate a deeper capacity for patience, connection, and nurturing.
Starting in June, my journey continues from music and education into birth work. I am honored to begin my apprenticeship under the guidance of Moriah and Rachel and consider it a profound opportunity.
I strive to support women and families in a holistic approach through the growth of their babies, trusting the natural process of birth, and recognizing birth as a sacred transformative initiation. I look forward to holding space and serving this community of women and families in this new capacity.
Samuela’s CPR and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications are current at all times.
Skyler Tait, registered nurse and birth assistant
As a young girl I knew caring for women and infants was my true calling. I found my path as a Registered Nurse, graduating from Colorado Mesa University in 2021 with my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. I began my career on the postpartum unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, where I had the immense privilege of supporting families during the most precious hours following birth. From gentle guidance on postpartum healing, to helping a mother and baby achieve a successful first latch, I am deeply grateful for the trust families have placed in me.
Through my nursing career, I realized that my core responsibilities are to educate and encourage. I found that lactation was an area new mothers craved more knowledge and assistance, but also needed and deserved support and empowerment. In early 2026 I earned my certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and transitioned into the role as Lactation Nurse at the hospital. Dedicated to providing the highest level of evidence-based support, I am currently preparing to sit for the International Board Certified Lactation Counselor (IBCLC) exam in Fall 2026.
In February 2026, I relocated to Paonia and felt an immediate sense of gratitude for the beauty, peace, and community here. Moving to the North Fork valley aligned with a personal desire to support families in a more holistic way, leaning into the innate wisdom of womanhood in both birthing and nourishing life. I am incredibly honored to join Moriah and Rachel as a birth assistant and lactation consultant, embracing the natural beauty of birth and motherhood in a landscape as grounding and beautiful as Paonia.
Skyler’s CPR and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications are current at all times. Her RN (registered nurse) is current with the State of Colorado. She is a certified lactation counselor and IBCLC candidate.
