At North Fork Midwifery we provide:

Personalized, hands on care throughout pregnancy, labor & birth, and the first six weeks postpartum.

Respect for the importance of the Mother-Baby connection.

A newborn’s gentle welcome to this world.

A family experience.

Beth is a nationally recognized Certified Professional Midwive with more than 20 years of experience.

Beth began her path to midwifery in 1993 after the birth of her second daughter, which convinced her that hospital care was fabulous for back surgery, but not the best option for giving birth or caring for healthy newborns.

She completed 6 years of training through a structured program developed by the Colorado Midwives Association, including one year of pre-clinical studies, three years of apprenticeship and deeper studies, and two years of supervised internship working with several midwives.

She became a Colorado Registered Midwife in 1999 and one of the first nationally recognized Certified Professional Midwives in Colorado in 2000.

Beth has provided care for over 500 planned home births, and supervised many student midwives.

From 2010 through 2013, she was honored to serve on the initial Wyoming Board of Midwifery, writing regulations to establish the legally recognized practice of midwifery in that state.

She also holds both B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering, is the mother to two brilliant young women, and is a partner in an organic orchard.

“I can’t thank you enough for who you are. Your heart of compassion and gentle spirit were just amazing. Your wisdom and experience are such a gift. Thank you for everything. As I think back on this birth experience, I remember your words, the feeling of your strong hands holding mine – giving me strength. This was truly the hardest thing I have ever done, and I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for using your gifts to make such an impact on the individual lives you touch every day.”
Love, Amy

“My heart swells with love for you when I think of the care you provided for Lennon & me. Midwives are truly the greatest gift a woman & her baby could dream of. Now that I have been through this miraculous journey into motherhood and have experienced first-hand midwifery care and the hospital care, I truly understand how vital midwifery care is to all women and babes of the world. You are truly impacting the world and our future generations. I am truly grateful for your continued love and support through my pregnancy and labor. I could not have made it through my hospital experience without your support and human touch. You will be in our hearts forever.”

The heart of my midwifery care is providing a safe, supportive environment for pregnant women and their partners to make informed choices about their care, and providing access to information and encouragement to have a healthy pregnancy, birth and baby.

The heart of my midwifery care is providing a safe, supportive environment for pregnant women and their partners to make informed choices about their care, and providing access to information and encouragement to have a healthy pregnancy, birth and baby. This care includes attention to nutrition, exercise, positively dealing with life’s stresses, routine blood work and medical tests. There’s always an emphasis on options and personalized care. To maintain or restore a healthy balance, I start with the gentlest methods – using food, rest, and self-care first; homeopathy, body work, herbal medicines when they are helpful; and referring for supportive alternative or medical care as needed. Evidence clearly shows that both mothers and babies are best served when medical interventions are only used when they are clearly needed.

Midwifery care includes:

  • A two hour initial visit
  • One hour prenatal visits
  • One home visit around a month before your expected due date
  • Consultation during early labor, personal support through active labor and birth
  • Care for both mother and newborn for 6 weeks after the birth, including extensive breastfeeding support.

Home care is provided during labor & birth, and the first week postpartum. Other visits are at the Hotchkiss office. Options available include water birth and placenta encapsulation.

“It’s not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth.”
